The Shalom Institute

The Shalom Institute -  www.shalom.edu.au is the centre for educational excellence in the post-secondary school segment of the Jewish community, promoting Jewish identification, learning and development.

It consists of four departments:

Hillel
www.hillel.com.au works to increase the Jewish knowledge, identity, involvement and commitment of Jewish university students.  It provides informal educational and consultancy services to enhance the effectiveness of Jewish students and the Australasian Union of Jewish Students (AUJS) www.aujs.com.au.  Hillel also offers Jewish chaplaincy services on 12 university campuses in NSW and the ACT.

Network
www.network.org.au and its affiliated groups/organisations create a wide range of programs - ranging from social and cultural events to educational activities - aimed at increasing the Jewish affiliation, involvement and commitment of young adults  Through Network young adults meet, become friends, establish relationships and become active members of our community.

Adult Education
www.shalom.edu.au promotes Jewish learning and literacy through the provision of courses and programs that reflect the diversity and richness of the Jewish experience.  The Melton Adult Education Program provides foundational knowledge of our Jewish heritage, our history, traditions and way of life. The Mosaic Program is a series of short courses relevant to contemporary Jewish experience.  Limmud-Oz www.limmudoz.com.au is a festival and celebration of Jewish learning and culture.  The Sydney Jewish Writers’ Festival celebrates the richness of Australian and world-wide Jewish writing and promotes the talents of writers.

Shalom College
www.shalomcollege.unsw.edu.au is a residential college and education centre on the campus of The University of New South Wales.  The college comprises a co-educational community of 130 undergraduate and postgraduate students from many different ethnic and religious backgrounds, who live in residence. It promotes academic excellence in a friendly ‘home-away-from-home’ environment.
